Rug Pads for Vinyl & LVP Floors

If you have vinyl plank down and you have been putting off buying a rug pad, it is probably because of what you read online. Search this and half the results are people whose floor came up yellow or blotchy under a cheap pad.

That happens, and it is worth understanding why: the culprit is usually a pad with a solid PVC or adhesive-style backing, or a cheap latex coating that breaks down over time and reacts with the wear layer. Vinyl is a plastic, and some plastics do not sit well against each other for years at a stretch.

Our pads are suitable for vinyl and LVP

Our pads use a rubber grip back over a fiber or felt cushion. There is no adhesive, nothing tacky, and nothing that bonds to the floor — the pad grips by weight and friction and lifts straight off.

Superior is the one we recommend for most vinyl and LVP floors. 0.160″ thick, 30 oz per square yard, recycled felt over a tan rubber grip back. Enough grip to stop a rug sliding on a slick plank surface, enough body to keep the rug flat.

Premium if you want more cushion. 0.25″ and 38 oz per square yard, our thickest and densest. Worth it if the vinyl is over concrete and feels hard underfoot.

All-Purpose if clearance is tight. 0.10″, our thinnest, for doorways and under low furniture. Fiber side faces up on vinyl.

Two things that help, whatever pad you buy

Let a new floor cure. Freshly installed vinyl can off-gas for a few weeks. Give it a month before you cover a large area with anything.

Lift the rug occasionally. Once or twice a year, pull the rug and pad back, let the floor breathe, and vacuum underneath. Good practice on any floor, and it lets you spot a problem early rather than in three years.
