Rug Pads for Heated Floors
Radiant heat changes the question. You are no longer only asking what protects the floor, you are asking what lets the heat through.
Do not use the Deluxe Outdoor pad over radiant heat
It is the one pad in our range we do not recommend for heated floors. It is built for decks and patios, where air circulation matters more than anything else. Use one of the three below instead.

At 0.160″ it is the balance we would pick over radiant heat: enough body to protect the floor and hold the rug, without putting so much material between the heat and the room that you stop feeling it.

On every other floor, thicker means more cushion and that is simply better. Over radiant heat there is a trade-off: every layer between the heating element and your feet is a layer the warmth has to pass through. A rug already adds one. The pad adds another.
Use the thinnest pad your rug will tolerate, not the thickest you can afford.
That is the opposite of the advice on our tile and concrete pages, and it is deliberate.

Over radiant heat, shorter bars are the advantage. Each tick is 0.05 inch.
Tan band is the fiber or felt cushion. Dark edge is the rubber grip back.
Check your system’s own guidance too
Radiant systems have a maximum floor surface temperature, and some manufacturers put limits on what you can lay over them. Ours are safe over heated floors, but your system’s documentation has the final word on temperature. If you are unsure, call 1-833-RUG-PADS and tell us what you have.

Why only four pads
We are a rug cleaning company first. Rugs come into our shop with the pad still stuck to the back of them: crumbling foam, adhesive gone to glue, cheap latex turned to orange powder that took the floor finish with it.
That is why we sell four pads and not forty. Felt and rubber, needled and bonded, nothing that breaks down into dust in five years. When a rug comes back to us for its next cleaning, we would rather the pad still be a pad.
