Rug Pads for Hardwood Floors

Hardwood is the floor people worry about most, and rightly so. A rug that slides scuffs the finish, and a rug with no pad underneath wears thin where people walk. A pad fixes both, and makes the rug quieter and warmer to stand on.

Which pad should I use on hardwood?

Superior is the one we recommend for most hardwood floors. At 0.160″ thick and 30 oz per square yard, it is substantial enough to protect the boards and cushion footfall, without lifting the rug so high that it catches a door. The tan rubber back holds firmly to a sealed wood floor.

Choose Premium instead if you want noticeably more cushion. It is 0.25″ thick and 38 oz per square yard — our densest pad. It is the right call under a thin flatweave or kilim that feels hard underfoot, or in a room where you stand a lot.

Choose All-Purpose if height is the problem. At 0.10″ it is our thinnest, so it works where a thicker pad would not fit — inside a doorway, under a low sofa, or at the edge of a room where a thick pad would make a trip hazard. Fiber side faces up on hardwood.

A note on finishes

Our pads are made for sealed hardwood. If your floor has been waxed, oiled, or finished with an unusual product, or if it is very newly refinished, let the finish fully cure and test the pad in a corner first. Every pad is cut to your rug

Pick your rug size and we cut the pad about an inch smaller on each side, so it sits invisibly underneath instead of peeking out at the edges. Nothing to trim on arrival unless you want to fine-tune it.
