All Purpose Rug Pad
Our thinnest pad, and the one that solves the problems thickness causes. Needled polyester fiber on a washable embossed rubber back. It stops a rug slipping and bunching without adding noticeable height at a doorway or under furniture.

Is this the right pad for you?
✓Choose this one if
- Your rug is thin. Flatweaves, kilims, machine-woven rugs, hide rugs.
- A door swings over the rug, or it meets a threshold and height is a problem.
- The rug is going over carpet. This is the only pad we recommend for that, and it goes down the other way up.
- Your rug is thick but you want to keep the total height down. A heavy rug brings its own weight and will hold a thin pad in place.
Where it works
Every hard floor, and the only pad in our range that belongs over carpet.
Over carpet, turn it over. Fiber side down into the carpet pile, rubber side up against the back of your rug. Two different surfaces, each gripping what it is good at gripping. This is the opposite of how it goes on a hard floor.
Which way up
On a hard floor: fiber side up, rubber side down. The embossed rubber meets the floor.
On carpet: fiber side down, rubber side up. The fiber bites into the carpet pile and the rubber holds the rug.
Trims with ordinary scissors. The rubber backing is washable, which matters more than it sounds in an entryway or a kitchen.

Why we sell this one
We are a rug cleaning company first. Rugs come into our shop with the pad still stuck to the back of them: crumbling foam, adhesive gone to glue, cheap latex turned to orange powder that took the floor finish with it.
That is why we sell four pads and not forty. Felt and rubber, needled and bonded, nothing that breaks down into dust in five years. When a rug comes back to us for its next cleaning, we would rather the pad still be a pad.
Frequently asked
Tap a question to open it.
Is a thin pad worth it?
On a thin rug it is the only thing that works. A thick pad under a light rug makes the rug travel across the pad, which is worse than no pad at all. Thin rug, thin pad.
Which side goes down?
On a hard floor, rubber side down. On carpet, fiber side down. It is the same pad used two different ways, and getting it the wrong way round on carpet is the most common mistake we hear about.
Will it protect my floor?
Yes. It keeps grit from grinding between the rug and the floor, which is what actually wears a finish through, and there is no adhesive or plasticiser in it to bond to a finish.
Can I use it outdoors?
No. Indoor only. For a deck, patio or anywhere that gets wet, the Deluxe is built for it and this one is not.
What size do I order?
Order the size of your rug. We cut the pad three inches smaller in each direction, so you get an inch and a half of clearance on every side and the pad never shows.
The size guide covers measuring, odd shapes and what to do if your rug is between sizes.
How long does it take?
Every pad is cut to order, so it is made for your rug rather than pulled off a shelf. Shipping is free in the contiguous 48 states, and you have 30 days to return it.
